Our studio was approached to design a flagship showroom for a well-known flooring importer, in a double volume space with an expansive frameless glass shopfront overlooking the the Hudson courtyard.
The brief, to showcase an extensive range of timber and laminate flooring products from leading Scandinavian manufacturers, presented us with the challenge of displaying a large number of samples, and making these accessible to view, without cluttering the space.
The solution came though the design of mobile display cubes, view Furniture, each with a series of interlocking shallow drawers holding 24 flooring sample sheets. With just 6 of these mobile cubes, 144 different flooring samples can be displayed.
‘Inspired by the energy of a cocktail bar, our ‘samples bar’ concept creates a focal point for the showroom’.
In keeping with the supplier’s marketing style of presenting their flooring in real-life settings, we developed several themed areas showcasing different applications; a lounge, an office setting, and children’s area, each one with a different floor finish, furnished and decorated to set the scene.
Special design elements include illuminated Plexiglas-clad columns, which bring light and branding into the rear of the showroom, glass pendants suspended over the double volume space, and bespoke joinery pieces for the office and children’s area scenes.
Inspired by the energy of a cocktail bar, our ‘samples bar’ concept creates a focal point for the showroom, and includes an innovative zig-zag display wall, holding over 200 sample sheets, maximising the available space for display of samples.
